Abstract
This current paper is an endeavor to propose a methodology for investigating into student social network with respect to collaborative online learning environment among secondary school students in Asia Pacific region. The network is established based on the combination of computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) approach and project-problem-based (PBL) platform that is delivered via web-based instruction. The main objective of this network is to create understanding and sense of awareness among learners about pressing environmental problems by bringing together students from diverse cultural background that are geographically distributed to collaboratively work on assigned scenarios concerning environmental issues. The discussion forum, shared in online space is observed and collective learning process is examined through the effectiveness of CSCL interactions. Both quantitative and qualitative methods are implemented to assess CSCL process. The variables of interests include the pattern of interaction, knowledge building, student learning behaviors and students’ perception. The pattern of interaction and participation is analyzed by using social network analysis (SNA) and the quality of dialogues is examined in the context of knowledge building using content analysis (CA). The data from self-reported survey is analyzed to interpret student behavior and attitude towards the learning platform. The details of experimental procedures and techniques implemented in data analysis will be addressed.
